A Short Introduction To Buddhism

Buddhism has been internationally known as no God and Creator, not like the other World Religions but the Buddha, its founder who had greatly practiced altruism to all sentient beings for 45 years and it was founded in India about more than 2500 years ago for all beings in this world. It is believed that is "A Way Of LIfe," not a Religion but the spiritual and enlightened teachings of the historical Buddha known as "The Doctrine And Discipline" (Dhamma and Vinaya) in ancient times.

Nowadays, Buddhism, as a path of enlightenment and emancipation, has divided into three categories, namely 1. Vinaya Pitaka, the Basket of Disciplines, 2. Suttanta Pitaka, the Basket of Discourses, 3. Abhidhamma Pitaka, the Basket of the Higher Teachings or the Buddhist Philosophy and Psychology and they are known as "Tipitaka," the Three Baskets, the Three Canonical Texts, the Three Great Vehicles. Buddhism is also a track of liberation from samsara, the cycle of rebirth and eventually will lead to attain "Nibbana," the Highest Bliss.

A Brief Introduction To Buddhist Meditation

Buddhist Meditation is a technical system which plays an important role in establishment of the different levels of mental concentration and has the ability to interest all scholars-both Buddhists and Non-Buddhists. It, more than 2500 years ago, was established and practiced by the Prince Siddhattha who was finally enlightened and known as "The Buddha," The Omniscient One. There are two kinds of Buddhist Meditation explained in the world of Buddhism called "Samatha and Vipassana."

Samatha, also called "Meditation for Calm," is good for beginners to develop and focus on their mind which is scattered and also a useful technique practiced in the world. Its purpose is to condition into tranquility, concentration and absorption that will lead to establish the supernomal powers.

Vipassana, also known as "Insight Meditation," is a unique technical system that can be found in Buddha Sasana only. It has a real capacity to penetrate into true nature of psycho-physical phenomena. Its aim is to remove the mental defilements and will lead to achive the supreme enlightenment in order to become the Noble Ones. Finally it will lead to attain "Nirvana."
